Aromatherapy in the 21st century
"Aromas give colour to our lives" Although perceived with scepticism by many, this area of human knowledge is around for millennia, being one of the fastest growing fields of alternative healing. Why is Aromatherapy a fast growing field of alternative healing?
Because, aromatherapy is no longer considered a hidden field of human knowledge, but as a complement to traditional and established medicine. And similarly to other alternative "healing" fields, Aromatherapy is undergoing great changes, improvements and deviating from its ancient primitive practices.
One of its many or new attributes, is being foremost more accessible to people than ever before, being relatively cheap, easy to apply and purchase. And as a result of this, aromatherapy can be used by practically anyone, everywhere! It can also be easily used at home, work, hospitals, clinics, buildings, vehicles, gardens etc.
A wide range of uses and applications
Modern aromatherapy, has a wide range of uses and applications e.g. relaxing from daily life stress, fighting headaches, migraines, scenting rooms, cleansing hospitals from airborne virus, relieving pain caused by chemotherapy or its side effects (cancer and tumour treatments), relieving pain during labour, relieving pain during heart surgeries etc. And although most people use aromatherapy at home for self-healing, this practice can also be used at work and in a broader sense. There are many world renown multinationals, presently conducting tests into anti-stress scents, in order to stimulate productivity among their employees, increasing in the process levels of work satisfaction.
Likewise, in Japan aromatherapy scents are daily used to invigorate both employees and customers. This practice has proven that by making use of natural scents, Japanese employees stay alert and productive longer, whereas customers feel less tense, stressed and aggressive. In Europe, the Metro of Paris was one of the first world transportation companies to introduce aromatherapy on the ventilation systems of many stations. This experiment started with the station of Madeleine (believed to be the most dirty and smelly metro station of all France), being slowly extended to other metro stations in the country. Therefore, Aromatherapy in the 21st century is slowly being re-discovered, getting into the mainstream of general health care treatments.
