What are carrier oils?

"Carrier oils soften the working of pure essential oils"

Carrier oils are often known as "base", "additives" or vegetable oils.
These oils can easily be mixed with pure essential oils, for direct use in massages or for health treatments.

Why are these oils so important?

What makes carrier oils so important and interesting for aromatherapy, is the fact that they can easily be spread in the skin, softening the powers and working of essential oils.
They also make essential oils less aggressive for humans and more appealing to the senses.
Finally, they are easily absorbed by the bloodstream, having important nutrients and vitamins of it's own.

Cold-pressed oils

Only cold-press oils should be used as carrier oils because of their nutrients, minerals and vitamins.

Therefore, choosing a carrier oil is also very important for aromatherapy and blending. And while some carrier oils are overly fat by nature, others are easier to absorb or to blend. So, carrier oils have distinct natures, characteristics, scents and uses.

And before buying a carrier oil one needs to take also into account several important factors like: oil colour, odour, properties, purpose, refinement, etc.

Finally, once opened a carrier oil bottle, one should keep it in the refrigerator in order to preserve it's natural properties.
