Proper functioning of this chakra:

The Root Chakra connects the physical body to earth, nature and our planet. This chakra symbolizes grounding and the creation of roots to the planet. And when working properly, it brings people closer together to their true selves and their earthly lives.
Through this chakra, we express both our sexuality, creativity, enjoyment for earthly pleasures and the need to preserve life on earth.

This chakra is also vital to balance our body and bring general well being to our lives. It also provides humans with a reservoir of universal energy, often known as "kundalini energy".
The Root chakra is also normally perceived, as the true seat our collective conscious, storing valuable human knowledge.

Therefore, when balancing the chakras in the body, the Reiki practitioner should always align the root chakra with the crown chakra, in order to maintain the inner balance and harmony of the person under treatment.

Finally, the root chakra also informs the "healer" if a person is well grounded to life, if all his/her physical, psychological and emotional needs are being covered, and if the person enjoys life to it's fullest.

The malfunctioning of the root chakra may lead to:

  • Personalities extremely focused in material possessions;

  • Insecurity in life;

  • Exceedingly indulging in sexual activities and food pleasures;

  • Gaining extra weight, leading to flatulence and constipation problems;

  • Selfishness, preferring to ignore other people's needs and feelings;

  • Getting easily upset, over-worried, aggressive, stressed, angry and insecure;

  • Fearing life.

In case one over-develops the higher chakras neglecting the lower ones, the result may be of constantly feeling drifting. The person may also feel that he/she doesn't belong to this realm, feeling dis-attached of earthly matters.
And if the Sacral and Solar Plexus chakra are both blocked, this often results in problems of anorexia.
