Reiki

Introduction

Reiki is best known as a natural or complementary healing system.
In comparison with other "natural healing systems", Reiki is a relatively "new" field of human knowledge (although reports suggest that it originates from ancient Tibetan traditions and doctrines).

Despite being perceived as an independent field of natural "healing", Reiki also has a certain degree of inheritance from other ancient healing systems and doctrines e.g. Pranic healing, Yoga, Buddhism, Zen etc.

However, Reiki has some unique aspects which help people distinguishing it from other healing systems.
One of the most important aspects of Reiki, is the belief in the power of human intent and of the mind. Without a strong, positive and constructive intent or mind power, Reiki cannot be put into action or be practiced.

Therefore, people practicing Reiki also need to evolve mentally, humanly and spiritually, perceiving life as a far reaching experience and as an ongoing process of self-development.

In this sense, the power of the human intent and mind, requires not only that daily meditation takes place, but that the person studies, behaves and acts within strong ethical boundaries, with compassion and kindness, serving as a healing tool to others.
The dis-attachment of the self, is one of the most important lessons that one can learn when practicing Reiki.

Reiki through times

Reiki is not a passive or stagnated healing system. Reiki has evolved through out the millennia, centuries and decades, seeing an increasing number of new ideas, methodologies, schools and followers emerging along with it.
And although not being practiced the same way everywhere and by everyone, it's altruistic fundaments and goals unite all Reiki practitioners.

Reiki's origin and etymology

The word is often  pronounced as "Rei" (spiritual wisdom) and "Ki" (life force) - meaning in Japanese, "Universal Life Force Energy".
This ancient Tibetan healing system also called of "natural healing", is understood by many, as a "simple laying on of hands".

In western countries we name this system by its Japanese term, which derives from the teachings of master Usui.
Although the "laying on of hands" characterises the practice of Reiki, universally speaking this system also represents the use or working with the "Chi".

In this context, the main goal of Reiki is to use the universal energy of the Chi to heal.
This energy when correctly used and applied, aids the Reiki practitioner to spot, reactivate, clean, recycle and bring energy to the human body, balancing both the chakras and aura.

But what is Reiki after all?

Unlike many people think, Reiki is not a sect, a religion, a creed or for what that matters, a doctrine. Reiki is a healing system, and like Buddhism, a way of living.

There are no strict human guidelines ruling Reiki. There are no "heads" or people leading all Reiki practitioners worldwide. There are no "special places" or temples where its applied or practiced.

Despite the fact that Reiki is a free system, many people feel that they need to set up boundaries and rules for its practice. But is not correct in our opinion, since the true charm of Reiki comes precisely from the fact, that this system knows no human rules or boundaries to its application and uses.

And in order for a person to be initiated into Reiki, one doesn't necessarily need any particular religious background, studies or faith. The only thing that Reiki requires from it's students and practitioners, is openness of mind, compassion, goodness, readiness to help others in need, and a positive mind-soul attitude.
Reiki also requires some level of self-development and spiritual awareness, which may vary from practitioner to practitioner.

Additionally, Reiki does not discriminate people and students on the basis of any religion, race, gender, age or creed. Everybody is welcome to learn the system and to practice it.

Reiki and religion

Despite the fact that Reiki does not require any religion to be substantiated, the use of a faith system or belief, can reinforce and empower the practitioner to achieve better results. In this sense Reiki works with any religion: Catholic,  Protestant, Hindu, Agnostic, Buddhist, Pagan or Jew teachings.

Interesting enough, many Reiki practitioners base their work and inner strength in catholic teachings, receiving assistance from higher sources e.g. God, Christ, Mother Mary, Angels, Guides,
Master Usui, "Spirits of Light", Reiki Masters, Ascended Masters, St. Germain, etc.
This goes without saying, that often people substantiate their Reiki practices in their belief systems, many times inherited from their parents, society and culture.
People add to Reiki whatever is part of their own "personal luggage", and that helps them to reinforce the healing work.

Finally and foremost important in our view, Reiki is not a substitute for any religion or traditional medical practice.
Some people think, that Reiki can replace all established practices in our society, but this is not correct.
In our perspective, Reiki merely assists and enhances established practices and the working of conventional medicine, being an excellent complement to legalised medical practices.
And working together, both fields of human knowledge can generate true miracles!

Reiki and other healing systems

Reiki can also be used in conjugation with other healing modalities. Many practitioners are also experts in Pranic healing, Shambala, Quantum Touch, Angel therapy, Aura reading, etc.
The more modalities one learns, the better people can be help others and the planet to heal.

Learning and practicing Reiki

Learning and practicing Reiki is of great importance for human beings, infusing them with sense of life purpose, inner harmony, calmness, love and peace.
Reiki also brings people closer to "God", giving them a life mission, happiness, wellness and increased health.

Therefore, this ancient practice of reconnection to the universe and God, is very much welcome in our modern and fast paced society, that often puts aside spiritual needs in favour of materialism and consumption.
In this context, Reiki also helps people to discern life situations with balance and sense of perspective, assertiveness and broadness of mind.

Reiki can also be teached and learned almost by everyone. In order to learn Reiki one only needs to be healthy, capable, willing and to find a good professional and experienced Reiki Master.

Following a Reiki course and reading as much information about it as possible, also helps people to understand this system and if they are willing or talented to practice it.

Schools and ranks of Reiki

Presently, there are several schools and ranks of Reiki worldwide, having different teaching methodologies, masters and symbols.
Although we can group them all inside of a general Reiki system, some  derivate directly from the traditional "Usui Reiki Ryoho" (or "Usui-Tibetan System of Natural Healing"), others derivate from
Dr. Hayashi's and Takata's-Furumoto line's of teaching.

And among non-traditional Reiki systems, the ones that distinguish themselves the most are e.g.  the Tibetan-Usui Reiki, Usui-Tibetan Reiki, Tera-Mai Reiki, Raku-Kai Reiki, etc.
These last Reiki schools often originate from independent masters, and are considered variants from the traditional Usui line or school of Reiki.

Finally, the teachings mentioned on this website are in accordance with the Traditional Tibetan School of Reiki, or the "Usui-Tibetan System of Natural Healing".
