What do you need to know as a client and before booking a Reiki treatment?

Before the treatment, the Reiki practitioner needs to consider a few things in advance:

  • the space where the treatment is taking place;
  • time of the day;
  • location;
  • client's age;
  • client's gender;
  • client's profession;
  • protection and grounding issues;
  • type of ailment or dis-ease to treat;
  • client's genetic or family ailments;
  • client's accidents or falls;
  • etc.

Dialogue between the Reiki practitioner and the client

Before initiating the treatment, the practitioner also spends from 15 to 20 minutes dialoguing with the client. It's important to understand from a practitioners point of view, the reason's for a specific treatment, and in case of ailments, their nature and duration.

It's also very important to get a feeling about the client, deciding if the treatment should be carried out or not.
In case the practitioners intuition tells him/her to cancel a treatment, then the client should understand and accept it. One is never obliged to accept a client.
Above all, the practitioner needs to be honest with the client, always honouring his/her intuition.

Other issues also very important for a professional practitioner, regard the privacy and confidentiality of a treatment.
And because Reiki practitioners obey to a code of ethics, all information about a client should never be shared with third-parties.

House and room

Prior to a Reiki treatment, the house and room of a practitioner also need to be properly cleaned of any residual or negative energies and duly energised.
And the space where the treatment is going to be held, needs to be peaceful, with a serene and clean atmosphere.

Regarding the energetic cleaning of the room, this can be carried out by opening a window, using incense, scented candles, crystals, sound, meditation, colours etc.
The practitioner will also use grounding and protection techniques, to clean the room and ground the client.

In terms of times of the day for a treatment, the best hours are early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Around these times one often feels more energized and capable of helping others.

Clothes

Both the Reiki practitioner and client, need to wear comfortable clothes during a treatment and that won't interfere with its action or results ( e.g. jogging suit).
It's also not advisable for the client to wear tight clothes, business suits, heavy and thick coats.
And because the client needs to feel always comfortable and warm, the person can also wear socks, long comfy trousers and a sweatshirt
Additionally, the practitioner needs to be able to make the Reiki hand positioning without obstacles in the way.

Before a Reiki treatment, it's also advisable that the client removes all metal items (except wedding rings), glasses, jackets, coats, vests, panty hoses, scarves, jewellery, ties, hats,  thigh belts, shoes and empties the pockets.
This relates to the fact, that metal items often absorbs the energy that is supposed to be send to the body.
Additionally, because Reiki is a hands-on technique, it's important for the practitioner to be able to reach all the chakras or energy centers in the clients body, carrying on the treatment in a natural and harmonious manner.

Skin problems

The Reiki practitioner will not touch people with the following skin problems:

  • skin infections;
  • lesions;
  • second/third degree burns;
  • thick layers of burns;
  • psoriasis;
  • serious eczema;
  • etc.

Personal hygiene

The Reiki practitioner insists always on proper hygiene for him/her and for the client. Therefore, it's recommend that before a Reiki treatment the client takes a bath or a shower at home.

After Reiki, the practitioner will need to wash his/her hands in order to brake the energy flow with the client.

Blanket, pillow and Kleenex tissues

In order to avoid that the client feels cold during a treatment, the Reiki practitioner has always a blanket at hand.
Besides a blanket, a box with Kleenex tissues help when the client needs to release body tensions.
And a comfortable pillow is often placed under the clients head, making sure that the treatment is as comfortable as possible.

After the Reiki treatment

a) It's advisable that the practitioner washes his/her hands, getting rid of the clients energy and breaking the flow of energy;

b) It's also advisable to rush off the energy of the client by means of a bath, or simply intending to do it with the hands or by recurring to incense;

c) Both practitioner and client need to be grounded after a Reiki treatment, by means of drinking water and eating;

d) The "energy cord" created between the Reiki practitioner and the client, needs to be cut or terminated after a treatment, in order to prevent the continuity of the energy flow.

Duration of a Reiki treatment

Normally, a Reiki treatment can last from 30 to 90 minutes. Yet, its up to the client to decide how much time he/she wants to spend on a treatment and the price.
Regarding hands positioning, this may requires from 10-20 minutes (all depending from the client needs). Often occurs that a particular chakra only needs 5 minutes and another 25.

Finally, it's up to the Reiki practitioner to judge the amount of energy needed by each client, chakra and the time spend on a full-body treatment.

Personally, we are flexible and do not follow constantly the watch. We follow our own intuition, and if a person needs more time we tend to give it to him/her (as long as it doesn't interfere with another client's appointment).

Team of healers treating one single patient

Normally, a client has only one Reiki practitioner carrying out a treatment. However, in special cases a client can have 2 or more Reiki practitioners.

In order for a person to have several practitioners, this needs to be discussed prior to a Reiki treatment.
In some cases the client may request it personally, or a family member for a person seriously ill.
This last scenario often involves people suffering from severe ailments e.g. coma, cancer, tumours, serious accidents, burnings, etc.
Either way, Reiki team work can be done directly on the body of the person, or sent by distant/remote healing to the client.

Lastly, Reiki team work is also possible at Sharehealing by having one practitioner at the lower part of the body, and the other at the upper part.
Both practitioners will try to boost the client's healing energies in a very high level of treatment.
